Mela 7.16: One Pole, Macro-8, and AI Patch Creation
Mela 7.16 introduces One Pole, a virtual-analog low-pass or high-pass filter with a gentle 6 dB/octave slope. Its low-pass and high-pass outputs complement each other, making it useful as a crossover when combined with Splitter. Try the new “3-Band Panner” factory patch to hear it in action.
The update also adds Macro-8, a modulator that brings up to eight macro controls into a single module. Each target can use a different Macro parameter as its source, and only controls assigned to targets are shown. Macro-8 is part of Collection 5 and available in Mela Lab.
The experimental Patch Skill provides instructions for AI assistants to create and edit Mela patches. Six new Drum Synth factory patches demonstrate the results, covering clap, cowbell, hi-hat, kick, snare, and tom sounds. They were created with AI using the skill and are included unmodified, each with 10–12 remotes for shaping the sound.

In this video, I highlight some of what’s new in Mela 7.16, focusing on the new One Pole and Macro-8 modules. One Pole works great as a crossover filter when combined with the Splitter module. Macro-8 lets you create up to 8 Macro parameters using a single module.
In this video, I explain how to use AI and the Mela patch skill to create Mela patches. As an example, I demo Logic Pro Drum Synth-style patches that I created for Mela using ChatGPT and the patch skill.
Mela 7.16 Changelog
Macro-8
- The new Macro-8 module is a modulator whose Mod signals equal the values of its Macro 1…8 parameters.
- Each Macro parameter sets its Mod signal value in the [0%, 100%] range.
- On the Targets page, Source selects which Macro parameter modulates each target.
- Only parameter controls assigned to targets are displayed.
- Macro-8 is a Mela Lab module and part of Collection 5.
One Pole
- The new One Pole module processes Audio signals using a virtual-analog low-pass or high-pass filter with a 6 dB/octave slope.
- Type selects LP or HP, and Frequency sets the cutoff frequency.
- The high-pass output is the original signal minus the low-pass output at the same cutoff frequency.
- This complementary relationship makes One Pole ideal as a gentle crossover filter for creating multi-band effects with Splitter.
- Factory Patches: Added “3-Band Panner” to the Subpatches folder, demonstrating multi-band processing with One Pole, Splitter and Balance.
- One Pole is part of Collection 4.
Patches
- Skill: Added “Patch Skill (Experimental)” under More in Settings, linking to instructions for AI assistants to create and edit Mela patches.
- Factory Patches: Moved drum patches from Synth FX to the dedicated Drums folder.
- Factory Patches: Added six new patches to the Drums folder: “Drum Synth Clap”, “Drum Synth Cowbell”, “Drum Synth Hi-Hat”, “Drum Synth Kick”, “Drum Synth Snare”, and “Drum Synth Tom”.
- All six Drum Synth patches were created by AI using the Patch Skill and are included unmodified. Each comes with 10–12 remotes for tweaking the sound.
