Ignite DAW Offers a Non-linear Workflow
Despite a lot of negative comments on YouTube, I think Ignite has a great potential here. Non-linear clip arrangement indeed makes more sense for musicians. If you are mixing a song that’s already complete, a traditional arrangement window layout (i.e. multi-track tape view) is the way to go. But for the music creation process sketching ideas in a non-linear environment makes more sense. You just want to throw a lot of ideas (audio/midi clips) on a sketchpad and re-arrange them very easily. This will make experimentation super easy. Personally, I prefer this approach over Ableton Live’s session view.
Even if Ignite doesn’t pull this idea off well. Someone else will come along eventually and will create a great non-linear DAW interface. This sort of an app will especially be useful on an iPad (or tablet).
