Native Instruments announced today the availability of the Traktor DJ app for iPad:
TRAKTOR DJ is the world’s first professional DJ software for iPad. Create mixes in seconds – put your hands directly on beautiful waveforms and manipulate them using gestures you already know. TRAKTOR DJ syncs effortlessly to TRAKTOR PRO 2, allowing you to sync all beat grid, cue points, BPM, and genre tags with your TRAKTOR collection and back.
You can download it right now from the App Store. It looks very promising. I haven't tested it yet, but I'm very excited. I just hope NI is not going to abandon it like they did with iMaschine. iMaschine has been out over 2 years now, and it hasn't had any minor features added to it, just bug fixes. At least give me AudioCopy/Paste. I'm not even talking about iPhone 5 screen or iPad support. Propellerhead, for instance, has been quite aggressive with Figure releases. iMaschine just feels abandoned to me. Maybe NI used it to experiment in iOS world. But I digress. I believe this is the future of DJing. We may not be there yet, but laptop DJing will most likely be replaced by tablet DJing. It was not so long ago that laptop DJing wasn't considered a serious DJing, nowadays, most DJs use a laptop.
Peter Kirn, who has been beta testing Traktor DJ, has a great review over at CDM. And here is a video of Richie Hawtin using the beta version of Traktop for iPad app live. Courageous man!
